Roommates & Breakups

I just realized something today. Ever since I came to Maryland, all of my roommates have had heavy relationship drama problems. The person who leased to me my first apartment here broke up with her long-time boyfriend, who I roomed with. The next apartment I had half a year later had three roommates, and ALL of them have had a lot of relationship drama. One of them just broke up with his long-time girlfriend. The second one's girlfriend broke up with him while he visited New York. Just recently, my third roommate had a huge fight with his girlfriend, and they both proceeded to break up with each other. This is a pretty eerie trend I've been seeing ever since coming here to the mainland....

On a happier note, I played some League of Legends games today with my friends. It's been so long since I've played, and I hope I can improve fast enough so that I don't bog them down. This game is pretty fun when playing with friends. There's just too much toxicity when playing with randoms.

Bad Exam Experience

Well, I finished taking my finance class midterm tonight, and I did absolutely horrible. This was definitely one of the hardest exams I've taken in my life. I could only confidently answer a fourth of the exam questions. I'm just mentally exhausted after this and wanna take a break. Unfortunately, I have other projects to attend to tomorrow so no rest for the weary. I also managed to finish my Great Lakes scholarship application last night and hope that I can get it for the next academic year. This memory just crossed my mind so I'm just gonna jot it down right now. Two or three weeks ago, I explained to Colin what computer processors, RAM, and CPU cores were, and gave the "person at a desk" to make it easier for him to understand. This explanation came from when he asked about the hardware differences between the regular Nintendo 3DS and the New Nintendo 3DS. I appreciated being able to explain this to him.

I FINALLY got my Hiroyuki Takahashi artbook in the mail on Friday! I thought it got lost in the mail and actually contacted Crunchyroll to send me a replacement. An even more pleasant surprise was that I got a misprint edition; the book had a few duplicates. If I ripped off two specific pages, it would become the regular version, not that I would want to rip it at all. The actual art is amazing and high quality. The material of the book is great and doesn't feel cheap. I don't regret buying this at all.

A Brief Respite

These last two hellish weeks are finally over. I've just been so occupied with schoolwork, projects, and exams that I just didn't have the mindset to update this blog. This week, I've had two days where I slept only an hour. Next week will also be pretty busy, but it doesn't seem too bad right now. I'll just put down what I can remember these last two weeks that doesn't involve school. During last week's Anime Friday, we watched Ixion Saga DT and more Problem Children. Ixion Saga was pretty amusing so I'm just gonna put that on my plan-to-watch list. Nothing big happened in club meetings this Sunday except there were a huge amount of people came along to eat dinner afterward the meeting ended. In the middle of the week, I got Kenji's early birthday gift. It was Bonobo's LateNightTales album. The case came in damaged though.

The actual music is pretty great though. I downloaded the digital album with code included, but the songs had some missing tags like track number and album name, which kind of irked me. Recently, I also bought Dead or Alive 5: Last Round and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin for PC. DOA5 is pretty alright. It runs pretty well on both my laptop and desktop, and I don't see any issues with it so far. I don't know how to feel about this version already having a good number of the costumes I bought for a large price in the previous DOA5U. I'll most likely use this version as a practice machine unless I see frequent sales on costumes on Steam. As for Dark Souls 2: SotFS, it's not bad. New enemy placements surprised me. I've yet to encounter any online invaders. The game seems pretty bright, but I can always change this in the settings. It would have been nice if enemies and bosses had additional moves, but oh well. There's going to be another Anime Friday tonight, but it'll be at my place this time. I'll be having lunch with Mark and Kaitlyn soon so that's about it for this update.

Last Few Days of Spring Break

These last two days have been pretty fun. On Thursday Wavlet and Kaitlyn came over to chill at my place, and we just watched this movie called Appleseed Alpha. I also got to play the Final Fantasy 15 demo for the first time, which was pretty gorgeous. The demo suffered from framerate issues whenever I did special moves so I hope Square Enix fixes that in the final product.

On Friday Justin, Wavelet, Mark, Kaitlyn, and I went to DC to hang out. We first went to this burrito place for lunch, and I made some pretty bad mistakes there. I ordered a Korean BBQ burrito, which didn't taste that good. I sprinkled some of Dave's Insanity hot sauce on it, which was my second mistake. It was painfully spicy to the point where I teared up and I had to sniffle after every word. The area around my mouth was just red because of how spicy it was. I couldn't even finish my burrito in the end because I ate something prior to going to DC. Next we went to this tea place and relaxed there for a few hours sipping on some nice tea. I drank the Tie Guanyin oolong tea and the Golden Dragon black tea, both of which were pretty nice. Afterwards, we rode the metro to this other part in DC and tried out a nearby cafe. I ordered a Peruvian decaf, which tasted pretty nice. I've been trying to get used to drinking coffee black, which can taste pretty bad if the coffee wasn't made that well. The cafe was pretty huge and was essentially a marketplace for various things. I saw dessert stands, kitchen knife stalls, kitchen utensil stores, butcheries, and dessert stalls. It was pretty impressive. Afterwards, we walked to this ramen place called Toki Underground, which was essentially a big part of why we came to DC in the first place. When we got there though, we found that the place was packed, and that we had to wait two hours to get a seat for the five of us. We decided to hit the bar-arcade next door, which was the big reason for why we came. Unfortunately, it was disappointingly small. A bunch of the cabinets didn't even work properly. The bar area itself was pretty small too. Mark and I spent most of the time fighting each other in Street Fighter II until we were notified of open seating. We went back and ordered our food. I got the curry ramen to see how it compares to Guam's Fuji Ichiban curry ramen. I was a bit disappointed. For a restaurant that was somewhat hidden from view and small, I was expecting really good ramen. I would even dare to say that Guam's curry ramen was tastier than the one I ate that day. I suppose I shouldn't expect much, and it's not like we have many options here anyways. We decided to head back since it was getting pretty late already. We went back to Mark's apartment and relaxed there for a few hours. We watched Miyazaki's The Wind Rises, which was really great. I quite enjoyed the bittersweet romance that was in it. The constant time lapses kind of tripped me up, but the movie was excellent overall. I went back home afterwards. Thus ends my eventful Friday.

It's Saturday today, and I feel like I've done nothing productive. I originally wanted to do the assignments that I thought were due after Spring Break, but it turns out that there really wasn't anything due soon. I suppose that's why I got lazy today. I really need to step up my academic game though. My financial situation is in the danger zone, and I need to find as much financial aid I can for next academic year. Having the video chat with my parents tonight really made me realize how hard they're working for me despite their age, and I need to work as hard if not harder to make sure they're not burdened. I keep saying this, but I can never seem to motivate myself long enough to carry through with actions, and I hate myself for this.

Normal Days

Well, I got Final Fantasy Type-0 yesterday and have been playing that yesterday and most of today. Nothing else really happened. My friends and I are planning on going to DC this Friday to check out this ramen place and an arcade bar. The weather is supposedly gonna be bad, but we'll see what happens.

Beginning of Spring Break

These last two weeks have been pretty rough schoolwork-wise. I had to deal with a lot of homework and most of my exams. Thankfully, I'm now enjoying my spring break. Weekend started off with the usual Anime Friday and some light drinking. We tried to watch this old Gundam series, but we were too distracted with talking. We then proceeded to watch No Game No Life and kept teasing Wavelet about his paranoia with data backups. It was a pretty fun and loud night.

The next day (Saturday), I went to DC to meet up with Sho and his friends, who were checking out the city for their last few days of spring break. We spent most of the day going through the museums, specifically the space museum, the Native American Indian museum, and the garden, which held many types of plants. Sho's friend started feeding some ducks in this huge fountain, and gulls started appearing. He threw goldfish snacks up into the air, and the gulls actually caught them mid-air. It was pretty amusing, and he kept doing it until all the snacks were gone. By the time we were done, gulls were just swarming in front of us waiting for food.

We then walked around the Chinatown/Gallery Place area for a bit before deciding to get some food. Walking around made me realize how nice it would be to live in DC. The roads weren't too congested with traffic, the sidewalks didn't have too many people, and the buildings weren't too high. I'm not sure about the areas outside of where we walked though. Afterwards, Sho and I just chilled at my place for a bit before hanging out with Mark. I wanted him to at least meet some of the anime club guys and show him how cool everyone was. After playing Blazblue Chrono Phantasma for a few hours, we went back to my place and played some Super Smash Bros before crashing for the night. Sho left in the morning back to his hotel in Virginia. I kinda feel bad for not walking with him back to the Metro.

On Sunday I spent most of the day playing Warframe and osu!, which I kind of regret. Wavelet asked me to chill with Justin and him later at night, but I told him that I had to do some assignments and was also tired from the day before. I finished my paper for my marketing class, which I hopefully got a decent grade in. Since these papers are auto-graded, it's hard to say what my grade will be... By the time I was done, it was already midnight. I had a long 3 hour nap at around 6 pm so I wasn't sleepy at all. I spent 4 hours playing osu!, trying out multiplayer with Justin, and catching up with Sean's score. Not a very productive day.

And now it's Monday. I woke up pretty early considering I slept at around 4:30 am. I played a bit of osu! and Warframe again.

Anime Friday

Nothing much today except that I spent most of the day watching Gundam Build Fighters and Nichijou while grinding in Hyperdimension Neptunia. I went to Anime Friday tonight and got introduced to Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankeinai yo ne! (OniAi for short), which is fairly amusing. Justin managed to convince me to play some Osu!. I also got to try sake for the first time today. It tasted decent for a $15 one from the local liquor store. Overall, it was a great time with buddies.
